Creative Journeys Lecture Series - talk by Gieve Patel on 14 Sep

Toto Funds the Arts
in association with the
National Gallery of Modern Art
is pleased to invite you to
the inaugural lecture of our series Creative Journeys
by
Gieve Patel

Date:  Friday, 14 September 2012.  Time:  6.30 p.m.
Venue:  National Gallery of Modern Art (Auditorium)
49, Palace Road, Bengaluru-560 052 (ph: 080-22342338)

From the body of his work as a painter, poet and playwright, Gieve Patel will present important extracts and images, and will attempt to trace leitmotifs and wellsprings––specific ideas and thoughts from which his creations have arisen. This talk will also look at the broader picture of how an artist’s life experiences might shape his thinking and have an impact on his work.

Gieve Patel’s paintings are in public and private collections in India and in other countries. He has published three books of verse. His poems are included in anthologies here and internationally. His work in theatre, Mr Behram and Other Plays, was published in 2007 by Seagull Books, Calcutta. He has worked as amedical practitioner in both rural and urban India.

Gieve Patel’s talk is the first in the Creative Journeys Lecture Series to be presented by Toto Funds the Arts. The series will provide a platform for younger and older writers, filmmakers, performing artists and visual artists to speak about the influences, impulses, processes and thinking that have shaped the art they produce.
