Artist Jitish Kallat (b. 1974) will provide a glimpse of the last fifteen years of his artistic practice, thinking through a small selection of his work that currently preoccupies him in his studio. Rather than comprehensively covering his wide-ranging body of work or following a chronological path, he will touch upon the varied themes that have recurred through his work.
Jitish Kallat’s work has been exhibited at museums and institutions including National Gallery of Modern Art (Mumbai), Tate Modern and Tate Britian (London), Martin Gropius Bau (Berlin), Gallery of Modern Art (Brisbane), Kunst Museum (Bern), Serpentine Gallery (London), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), Palais de Beaux-Arts (Brussels), Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), Jean Tinguley Museum (Basel), Centre Pompidou (Paris) and the Gemeente Museum (The Hague) amongst many others. His recent solo shows include venues such as the Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Ian Potter Museum in Melbourne followed by a forthcoming solo at the San Jose Museum of Art (September 2013–April 2014).
Jitish Kallat’s talk is the third in the Creative Journeys Lecture Series presented by Toto Funds the Arts. The series provide a platform for younger and older writers, filmmakers, performing artists and visual artists to speak about the influences, impulses, processes and thinking that have shaped the art they produce.
