TOTO AWARDS 2012: Call for entries

TOTO FUNDS THE ARTS (TFA) invites submissions for its 8th annual arts awards for young photographers, writers, musicians and bands. There are six awards to be won – one for music (Rs 50,000), two for photography (Rs 25,000 each), two for creative writing in English (Rs 25,000 each), and one for creative writing in Kannada (Rs 25,000).

All submissions must be original and must be received before 10 September 2011 . Young Indian nationals between the ages of 18 and 29 are eligible to apply.

Deadline for Applications for Photography Awards extended to 18th October

TOTO FUNDS THE ARTS (TFA), in association with TASVEER, invites entries for its fourth annual Toto awards for young Indian photographers from persons between the ages of 18 and 29. Two winners, to be decided by an eminent panel, will get a cash award of Rs 25,000 each. Entries should reach TFA by 10 September 2011 18th October 2011.

Only Indian nationals resident in India are eligible for the awards. You can apply if you were born on or after 1 January 1982. No exceptions will be made. Also, since the spirit of the award is to identify promising photographers, do not apply if you are already well established in your field.


The submissions should comprise a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 24 images, either in colour or black and white, or a mix of the two.


  1. The submission should comprise still images. Video photography will not be accepted.

  2. The images should be of a resolution between a minimum of .5 and a maximum of 1 MB.

  3. The submission should be made on CD (three copies) along with hard copies of five photographs of your choice. These should be in reasonable size, i.e., easily visible, but not larger than A-4. DVDs will not be accepted.

  4. The photographs should be on one or two themes. Your choice. Please do not send a random assortment.

Entries must be accompanied by a hard copy statement, signed by you, confirming your name, date of birth, whether your work has been exhibited/published in print (give details), and also affirming that the submitted work is original. Please also give us your postal address, email ID, phone number (landline and mobile) and a short bio. Please ensure that your name does not appear either on the hard copy version of your photographs or on the CDs. Your entries will be given code numbers to protect your identity from the jury during the judging process.

TOTO FUNDS THE ARTS (TFA) invites entries for the eighth annual Toto award for young budding musicians and bands. The winner, to be decided by an eminent panel, will receive a cash award of Rs 50,000. Entries should reach TFA by 10 October 2011. There will be no extension of this deadline.


TFA is looking for entries in contemporary music from all parts of India (bands or individuals). The list of genres in which you can apply extends from rock, jazz, heavy metal and electronic, to instrumental and folk. The award is open to music in any language but submissions should be 100% original.


Only Indian nationals resident in India are eligible for the award. You can apply if you were born on or after 1 January 1982. No exceptions will be made. Also, since the spirit of the award is to identify and encourage young talent, do not apply if you are already well established in the field or if your music has received a commercial contract.



For this year’s award, TFA will team up with NH7 as an online partner. The initiallist of applicationswill be reduced to five finalists, handpicked by the knowledgeable editorial staff at NH7. From these finalists a winner will be picked by an eminent jury appointed by TFA and this winner will be announced at the awards
ceremony in January 2012.

Over the past seven years, the Toto music award has grown as a concept and has become an event that all young musicians look forward to. It's an opportunity to see where you stand among many other Indian musicians, and to get your music heard and judged by veterans in the field. Entries will be judged by a panel of three independent jurors, both on your music and on your potential as an artist/band. Professional recording quality is not a requirement.

The application package should include the following:

  • 2 CD copies of the music (audio or .wav formats - no MP3). Bands may send in an EP if they have one or a plain recorded CD with two or three of their best tracks on it. Please label each CD with the name of the artist/band and a contact no. Please also include track names.
  • A signed statement confirming: (i) the applicants’ date of birth, (ii) the names of any previously released singles/CDs, (iii) that the submitted work is original.

· Applicant’s contact information, including name, telephone and cell numbers, email and postal addresses, as well as a short bio.

Toto Funds the Arts (TFA), in association with Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions, invites entries for its seventh annual Toto awards, from persons between the ages of 18 and 29, for writing in English in three genres: short plays, short stories and poetry. Two winners, to be decided by an eminent panel, will get a cash award of Rs 25,000 each. Entries should reach TFA by 10 September 2011.


The awards are meant only for Indian nationals resident in India. You are eligible to apply if you were born on or after 1 January 1982. No exceptions will be made. Also, since the spirit of the award is to identify promising writers, please do not apply if you are already a well-known writer.

Each entry should be not more than 7,500 words. If you are submitting poems, please send 6 to 10 poems. If you are submitting short stories, their combined word length should be at least 2,500. You can, if you wish, send only a single story of 2,500 to 7,500 words. You can send entries in all three categories — poems, short stories and plays — but you must send in separate entries for each category. For example, your poems can constitute one entry, your short stories the second entry, plays a third entry. The word limit will remain 7,500 per entry.
