LAST DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS 10 OCTOBER 2011

TOTO AWARDS 2012

MUSIC

TOTO FUNDS THE ARTS (TFA) invites entries for the eighth annual Toto award for young budding musicians and bands. The winner, to be decided by an eminent panel, will receive a cash award of Rs 50,000. Entries should reach TFA by 10 October 2011. There will be no extension of this deadline.

TFA is looking for entries in contemporary music from all parts of India (bands or individuals). The list of genres in which you can apply extends from rock, jazz, heavy metal and electronic, to instrumental and folk. The award is open to music in any language but submissions should be 100% original.

Only Indian nationals resident in India are eligible for the award. You can apply if you were born on or after 1 January 1982. No exceptions will be made. Also, since the spirit of the award is to identify and encourage young talent, do not apply if you are already well established in the field or if your music has received a commercial contract.

For this year’s award, TFA will team up with NH7 as an online partner. The initiallist of applicationswill be reduced to five finalists, handpicked by the knowledgeable editorial staff at NH7. From these finalists a winner will be picked by an eminent jury appointed by TFA and this winner will be announced at the awards
ceremony in January 2012.

Over the past seven years, the Toto music award has grown as a concept and has become an event that all young musicians look forward to. It's an opportunity to see where you stand among many other Indian musicians, and to get your music heard and judged by veterans in the field. Entries will be judged by a panel of three independent jurors, both on your music and on your potential as an artist/band. Professional recording quality is not a requirement.

The application package should include the following:

  • 2 CD copies of the music (audio or .wav formats - no MP3). Bands may send in an EP if they have one or a plain recorded CD with two or three of their best tracks on it. Please label each CD with the name of the artist/band and a contact no. Please also include track names.
  • A signed statement confirming: (i) the applicants’ date of birth, (ii) the names of any previously released singles/CDs, (iii) that the submitted work is original.

· Applicant’s contact information, including name, telephone and cell numbers, email and postal addresses, as well as a short bio.

Entries should be sent by courier or ordinary post only (and NOT by speed or registered post) to the address below (the phone numbers supplied are for courier purposes only).
